From Design to Understanding and Back Again: Cumulus Conference - Denver, CO - September 29-October 2, 2011

As designers we have come full circle in our quest to create a sustainable world. Designers can no longer be spectators. The boundaries we are used to have disappeared and as human beings we “play” a real role in designing the world around us.

In our world of design the color “green” has now become more complex and is shaded in many hues. Some of these hues are divided into social, environmental, economic, functional, renewable and responsible. Others have not yet be identified yet but are proving to become major change agents in the future of the responsible designer. The reality is that designers are now beginning to see “green” as still being complex but becoming more holistic and part of their everyday lives. They are beginning to understand the problem globally by creating design solutions that are causing positive effects on how they live, work, learn and play.
